(1963, Harleem, Holanda)
Desiree Dolron is a Dutch photographer, photojournalist. She is one of the main representatives of contemporary photography. His work is both plastic and documentary.
He was born in Harleem in 1963. In the Exaltation series (1991-1999), he produced a photographic report on religious rites around the world. This work is inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson’s Danses à Bali. The images of scarified bodies evoke punk culture.
Between 1996 and 1998, he produced a series of portraits of submerged people (Gaze). In the Xteriors series (2001-2006), imagine portraits and situations inspired by the Flemish pictorial tradition. This series presented at the Dutch Institute in Paris in 2006 was inspired by the resemblance of a girl crossed in the street with the Portrait of a Young Woman by Petrus Christus (1446) 2. Dorlon took her to see the painting at the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin . The photographs were taken in an 18th century mansion at Oud Amelisweerd, near Utrecht. The technique of contemporary digital photography joins the plasticity of the ancient pictorial technique of Petrus Christus and other painters such as Leonardo da Vinci (technique of sfumato), Rembrandt (anatomy lesson), Edouard Manet (dead Bullfighter) and Vilhelm Hammershoi.
During a stay in Havana in 2002, Desiree Dorlon photographed scenes from Cuban daily life and interiors, and painted the portrait of the choreographer Alicia Alonso.
