His real name was “Helmut Neustädte” . He was an Australian photographer of German origin who considers himself one of the most important photographers of the 20th century. He creates a new style of his own in his photographs, which are full of glamor and seduction, where female nudes and stilettos predominate.
Of Jewish origin, he was born in Berlin in 1920. Just when the persecution against the Jews began, he left Germany for Singapore, where he worked as a photographer for a newspaper. It is there where his photographic career begins, although like many other artists he did not enjoy the support of his father.
From Singapore he was deported to Australia. And being German, he spent a period in an internment camp. It was subsequently enlisted by the Australian Army until the end of World War II.
After the war, he sets up his own photography studio and continues that point. It is around this time that he meets his later wife, June Browne. Later, to complete her training in the field of fashion, she went to London for two years. Leaving behind his time in London, he travels to Paris to work in fashion magazines such as Vogue or Elle. After traveling so much, it is in Paris where he establishes his habitual residence. There his career as a fashion photographer begins to have worldwide recognition, becoming one of the most successful photographers. Newton’s last years were between the cities of New York and Monte Carlo.
Newton’s work has its own style that makes his work recognized wherever it is observed. Photos full of glamor, seduction and elegance have made him the cover of the most prestigious magazines.
