Francisco Mata Rosas is a Mexican photographer. It is one of the most recognized exponents of contemporary photography. He studied Communication Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Xochimilco 1979-1983. And the Master of Visual Arts at UNAM. He worked as a photojournalist in the newspaper La Jornada de México, 1986-1992. His photographic work has been published in several major newspapers and magazines in the United States, Spain, Canada, Italy, France, England and Mexico. His photographs have been exhibited in: Mexico, Holland, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, England, the United States, Scotland, Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Panama, Uruguay, Ecuador, Peru, Honduras, Cuba and Costa Rica, to mention only some spaces.

Acquisition Award at the Biennial of Mexican Photography, 1988. Honor Award in the Bicentennial Contest of the French Revolution, Mexico-France, 1989. Young Creators Grant from the National Fund for Culture and the Arts, Mexico, 1989. Third Mother Jones Fund for Documentary Photography USA, 1993. Prize for Promotion and Co-investment of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts, 1994 and 1999. Artistic Residency at the Museum of Fine Arts in Orleans, France, within the framework of the 5th Recontres Photographiques d’Orléans, Une Saison Mexicaine. October-November, 2004. Honor of Distinction in Photojournalism, Black and White Spider Awards, 2006 It belongs to the National System of Creators of Mexico since 2000.
