Eugenio Recuenco is a Madrid photographer, who works mainly in the fields of publishing and advertising. Compared with others, his personal style has been referred to as “cinematographic” and “pictorial”. Create fantastical worlds, scenarios typical of a fairy tale cared to the smallest detail, very different from the style of commercial photography. His works are characterized by the use of pastel colors generally or the use of intense colors to draw attention to certain elements.
His work has appeared in fashion magazines such as Vogue, Madame Figaro and Twill. In addition, his photographs have been exhibited at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, at the BAC (Barcelona International Contemporary Art Festival), at the Naarden Photo Festival, FEM (Festival Madrid edition), Les Rencontres de Arles, PhotoEspaña and Art Toronto.
Biography
He was born in Madrid in May 1968. He studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid with the intention of being a painter, but later decided to dedicate himself to photography.2 The stage of his artistic training is reflected in his works making references to painting from the baroque style to minimalism, although we can also find many references in pop culture and cinema. His style is full of connections from a retro image to a totally futuristic one, or from something subtle and elegant to something disturbing.
It was in Paris where he produced his first piece of advertising for Boucheron, and after that many more brands like Nina Ricci, Diesel, Shanghai Tang, Yves Saint Lauren, Playstation, Custo, Le Bon Marché, BSI Lugano and Pernod Ricard decided to work with him . In 2007 he was invited to create the Lavazza calendar and from the United States along with Eric Dover he did the set design and staging of the opera Les Hugueunots, at the Richard B Fisher Center in New York.
Paris became the city that established its rhythm, it was there where I created his first commercial of Nina Ricci. This opportunity opened a wide range of opportunities with other brands such as Loewe, Freixenet, Mango, Codorniu, Chivas Regal, Campania, Vanderbit and Motorola among others.
In 2008, his video “Essence of Seduction” won the award for the best advertisement of the year in Spain and the best short film in Mexico City during the international film week. From that moment on, he continued making shorts and video clips such as Rammstein’s, “Mein Herz Brennt”.
In 2011 he screened his film 88:88 and Deseo at the ASVOFF Fashion Film Festival at the CaixaForum in Barcelona. P>
In 2012 he presented his film “Pure Beauty” at the San Francisco International Film Festival. p>
In 2013 it was TeNeus who called him to make his first book “Revue” that coincided with an individual exhibition at the Camera Work Gallery exhibition in Berlin in September of the same year.
In 2004 he won the ABC national photography prize, in 2009 he won gold and bronze at the Sol Festival, and in 2006 and 2013 his photographs won gold at the Cannes Lions Festival.
