(London, UK, 1973)
The young photographer Cig Harvey does not have much publicity in her country , however it is one of the largest in the United States, where she currently resides.
His photographs are delicate, sensitive, delicious. With flat colors of sharp cuts tells half stories, prepared for the viewer to imagine. In his photographs we can rarely see the face of the model, usually in profile, back or something that covers it. Other times he even chooses to cut the frame in the neck. Perhaps to make us feel identified, perhaps not to draw our attention to the “who is” but the “what happens”. Added to the fact that the emotions are shown on the face, it leaves us even more freedom by not showing us what the girl’s mood is.
Focuses large flat surfaces, often desolate landscapes, sometimes just enough room to give that feeling. But nevertheless, it does not give us a sense of mystery, dreary, fear, … no. It is a photograph that despite not showing up to “anyone” and doing it alone, in most of the occasions it gives us a slight smile of happiness.
Although he has won numerous photography awards, exhibited in a number of galleries and even in Museums (such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston or the International Museum of Photography in Rochester, NY), most of his photographs are easier for us to find in magazines. She worked for Ralph Lauren, she is on the cover of Maine, Bazaar, Surface, New York Magazine, etc…
