Anton Corbijn is a photographer and director of music videos, including “Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode (1989), “One” by U2 and “Heart-Shaped Box” by Nirvana (1993).
Corbijn began his career as a photographer during a concert in 1972. In 1979 he moved to London, where he started working with rock bands such as Joy Division and Public Image Ltd. During this period Corbijn also began his work as a photographer for prestigious magazines such as Vogue and Rolling Stone.
After becoming an important photographer, Corbijn also decided to make music videos. Also since 1993 he is responsible for designing the sets that the English band Depeche Mode strong> occupies in their world tours.
Corbijn directed the film Control over the life of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis in 2006. The film is based on Deborah Curtis’s book Touching From A Distance about her late husband.
Corbijn tends to put aside traditional glamor photography, giving his work a more natural touch, often in black and white. The people to whom the photograph gives the impression of being calm and far from everyday life. Your photographs show natural emotions. His patented and influential style of black and white images has been imitated or copied to such an extent that it has become a cliche of rock and a vital part of visual language in the 1990s.
In 2005, Palm Pictures released a DVD collection of Corbjin’s work as music video director. In addition to a 56-page booklet, the DVD also includes cut scenes, short films and documentaries commented on by the artists.
In addition Corbijn has put multiple exhibitions in Latin American countries such as Peru or Argentina among others where they have been a real success among connoisseurs.
