Adrián Otero Vila was born in Spain and later moved to the United States, where he currently resides. According to him, his work life did not start in photography: he worked as an Android developer, but gradually the passion for nature and landscapes was calling more and more. His European origins and experience in the American country have shaped his creative vision: he combines both cultures to offer a unique view of the natural world.
His photographic style is characterized by the use of black and white and, often, a square format, which gives his images a timeless, almost dreamlike atmosphere. More than capturing scenes as they are, Vila seeks to “make images”, transforming reality through composition, editing and the conscious use of light and textures.
One of the flagship projects of his career is his series “America Untitled”, in which he traveled for several months in the west of the United States. During this trip he explored volcanoes, deserts, frozen lakes and inhospitable places, all with his analog camera. From more than 250 rolls of film, he selected 46 final images for the series, showing not only his dedication but his devotion to the craft process of analog media.
In addition to his artistic production, Vila widely shares his knowledge. In 2020 he published an e-book called “Photography Is Easy”, where he breaks down myths about photography and encourages fans to express themselves with authenticity. He also has a YouTube channel (AOWSPhotos) and an active presence on networks such as Instagram, where he documents his travels, his creative process and his reflections on what it means to “see” with the camera.
