(frebruary, 20, 1902 — April, 22, 1984)
To speak of black and white is to speak of Ansel Adams.
Ansel Adams He was born in San Francisco, California, the son of Charles Hitchcock Adams and Olive Bray. He was considered a photographer and ecologist for his great love of nature. An anecdotal fact in his life is that in 1906 there was a great earthquake followed by a big fire in San Francisco and Ansel, who at that time was only 4 years old, broke his nose. That facial mark was his hallmark throughout his life.
He was interested in the piano for several years and this gave him discipline and structure. He started photography using a Kodak # 1 Box Brownie camera that his parents gave him. He later joined a club where he met his wife, Virginia Best.
He was the creator of the System of Zones and wrote numerous technical books on the Black and White technique, such as The camera, The negative and The Copy.
‘I hope that my work will encourage self expression in others and stimulate the search for beauty and creative excitement in the great world around us’.
